BROWN EAR TICK (CATTLE)
This is hard blood sucking tick found in Zimbabwe. It feeds in the ears of cattle small ruminants and other livestock The most common host species include : •Cattle, buffalo, antelope, hares, dogs etc. Brown ear ticks spreads the parasite Theileria parva the cause of East Coast fever in cattle.
PREVENTION AND CONTROL
- Timely dipping of livestock
- Always alternate dips with different active ingredients to avoid tick resistance.
- Apply tick grease
- Use of dipping compounds which are applied on the back.
Why is Calcium So Important in Layer production?
- An eggshell is made of approximately 90% calcium, which is one of the reasons why calcium is so important in a laying hen’s diet.
- If a hen is laying an egg every other day, she needs a lot of calcium to make a strong, sturdy eggshell every 48 hours.
